you've picked the best baby name EVER?
When asking about baby names, do you want honesty, or are you just looking for people to tell you that...?
When I named my daughter J'aqeesha , I knew it was the best.name.ever. My other kid's name is P'jama.
Reply:I'm only 15.. but when I've asked questions about others for things besides baby names or even baby names.. I'm looking for honesty!
I think everyone mostly wants honesty but they don't want people to be rude about the honesty! If they don't like it, they shouldn't say your a terrible person or your going to be a bad mother or something like that.. just say you don't like it and move on!!
Reply:Both, hahaha.
I want honesty. I have some names on my list that are out-there. And getting what people honestly think of them helps me in determining if they might be a little too out-there.
But, at the same time, when people tell me that a name I've chosen is the worst name they've ever heard or that I'm a horrible person for even considering calling a child something like that....I tend to wonder what names they love, cause I'm sure I'd hate them just as loathsomely as they hate mine.
Reply:I like honesty. Why ask if you don't?
the problem for me though, is when people make statements as if their opinion is fact, not just their opinion. I hate when people say "you have bad taste" just because it's different than their own. I also hate when people say "that is a boy name not a girl name" or vice versa. A girl named Madison or avery is no less of a girl than a girl named Olivia or Jessica.
It's all a matter of opinion and personal preference and no one is "right" or "wrong. So i don't mind when poeple say they don't like a name I like or even that they hate it. But if someone states that a name is ugly or ridiculous just because THEY don't like it, well...that is just very egocentric and wrong.
Reply:I pretty much just want people to answer the question I asked and not rant at me about stuff or give an answer that isn't backed up by anything. You know, if you think a name is ugly, then explain WHY - not "Eww that name is hideous", but "I think the sound of it is harsh to the ear because the M and the K together doesn't sound good".
The few times I've asked people for help or advice I've had positive and negative comments and I found both of them equally helpful. It was helpful to know what percentage of people weren't going to like the name, and their reasons why. Then I could figure out if I agreed with their thinking and how much it would bother me.
Reply:Honesty! And by honesty I don't mean rudeness. I ask questions to start a discussion.
I know my names aren't going to be universally appealing, but without the dissenters, I'm sort of stuck in my own baby name bubble. And that is no fun at all.
I truly appreciate the feedback I get from the people on this site. Once I wade through the answers of "I don't like it."/"Nooooooo!!!!"/"I prefer (something totally unrelated here)" I find some really insightful opinions.
So, honesty.
Reply:I want people to be honest when i say a name i like here it's like a test, if i wanted people to tell me i've chosen a good name i wouldn't ask anything to anyone.
Reply:Most of the time i am looking for honesty and suggestions on how to make the name better. :)
Reply:I would prefer people to be honest because if I have to come up here on Yahoo Answers to get an opinion then I must be desperate and need honesty.
Reply:Alot of people just want approval for jambalayawombat or whatever "unique" name they have chosen for their progeny.
Reply:good question. sometimes I think it's just 14 year old girls fantasizing about being mommies.
Reply:Hey astralpen.. I have a cousin named jambalyawombat.....;-)
Reply:I think that you want honesty and people general opinion on the names that you pick
Reply:honesty. i need help with the name so i know its not all that good. but i absolutely love the name emma
Reply:I'd look for someone's honest opinion. But I would like it if people liked my names =)
